My name is Mark Muse (that middle "M" is for Mather - old family name). I was born and raised in the Republic of Panama. Mom and Dad grew up in Atlanta and moved to Latin America in the early 50’s. For a good part of my life, my family and I lived in a beautiful mid-century modern house in Panama City that was so perfectly built for the never-ending oppressive heat and humidity of the tropics. There I was - 12 years old. On the floor with Mom designing a new look for my bedroom. Away with the patriotic bold, geometric red, white and blue look that I selected when I was 8. In with the muted caramels, moss greens and burnished golds. Oh! The unabashed joy of fussing over and selecting the fabric for the curtains and large throw pillows that were strategically positioned around my newly purchased Percival Lafer rosewood coffee table. (As you may know, he was a pioneer of the Brazilian modernist movement.) The high thread count of the cream-colored crisp sheets. The track lighting that was so perfectly directed at the eight pieces of original Panamanian art all arranged salon-style on the freshly painted, cognac-colored wall. Dimmer…of course! The gorgeous bookcase that I designed with Dad stained to match the rosewood of the coffee table. How did I know how to do this all at the age of 12?! Obvious for the baby who wore saddle oxfords with his first outfit. I just “did”.
Fast forward - I’m a retired veteran of the corporate meetings and events industry with 32 years of related global experience with Philip Morris International and Mastercard International. That multi-faceted and multi-lingual experience, coupled with that unparalleled life in Panama, formed an exquisite design aesthetic that was finely honed in all of my numerous homes over the years. My innate sense of style, balance and design set against the world stage is what has fueled my passion for unique interior design over the years
